Even if people dislike other early arcs, say the malevolence arc, it ties Plo to Ahsoka’s past and that he respects the clones, so it at least is nice to watch in retrospect or watch later episodes with that knowledge in mind.

What’s up w/ Downfall of a Droid?? : r/clonewars

I believe the story behind that is that the first six episodes of the clone wars that were made were the four that became the Clone Wars Movie, and the two that make up the Downfall of a Droid .

Alright, alright, settle down, Clone Wars newbie (or seasoned vet, no judgment). You’re thinking about tackling “Downfall of a Droid,” eh? Well, lemme tell ya, it’s…an experience. Not always a *good* experience, mind you, but an experience nonetheless.

Okay, so the basic gist is R2-D2, bless his little astromech heart, gets lost in the midst of a ridiculously chaotic space battle. Like, *poof*, gone. Vanished into the void. And why is this a big deal? Because our boy R2 isn’t just a beeping trashcan on wheels. He’s carrying Jedi military secrets. Like, *huge* secrets. You know, the kind that could turn the tide of the entire freakin’ war.

Anakin, of course, being Anakin, freaks out. He’s got a serious droid-dad complex when it comes to Artoo. So, he’s gotta find him. This leads to, well, a series of questionable decisions and some pretty darn frustrating moments. I mean, come on, Ani, maybe think things through for once, yeah?

The thing is, “Downfall of a Droid” (and its follow-up, “Duel of the Droids”) is kinda… early Clone Wars-y. You know? Before they really hit their stride. Like, the animation’s a bit clunky, the writing is…well, let’s just say it’s not peak Filoni brilliance, and sometimes you’re just sitting there like, “Seriously? *This* is the plot?”

Someone online said that these episodes, along with the four that made up the Clone Wars movie, were like, the first ones they *actually* made. Which kinda explains a lot, tbh. You can feel the growing pains.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some redeeming qualities. We get to see a bit more of Anakin’s attachment issues, which are, y’know, kinda important later on (cough *Vader* cough). And the whole concept of the Separatists trying to exploit R2’s intel is pretty cool. I mean, imagine what Grievous could do with that info! Scary stuff.

But honestly? I wouldn’t put “Downfall of a Droid” at the top of your Clone Wars watchlist. If you’re doing a chronological run-through, fine, grit your teeth and get through it. But if you’re looking for the *best* the series has to offer, maybe skip ahead a few episodes. You won’t miss *too* much. Maybe just watch a quick recap on YouTube or something. Seriously, you’ll thank me later.
