First things first, that nagging feeling about the price? Listen to it! If it seems too good to be true, seriously, it probly is. Like, why would someone sell a legit Fossil at a fraction of the price? Red flag city, people!
Now, I’m no watch expert or anything, but the general gist of what I’ve gleaned from the internet is this:
Gotta Get Your Detective Hat On:
* Check the Case: Apparently, the way the case is made can be a giveaway. I’m guessing the real ones have a certain heft and finish. I’d probably compare it to a real one in a store if you can, you know, just to feel the difference.
* Crown Jewels (err, Crown): The crown – that little knob you use to set the time – apparently, that’s important too. Look at the details, see if it looks cheap or flimsy. I’m not entirely sure what to look for, but you know, just *look*.
* Strap Yourself In: The strap is another area to scrutinize. Feel the material. Does it feel like plastic-y garbage? Then, big surprise, it probably *is* plastic-y garbage. The inside of the strap might have clues too… I’m picturing like, shoddy stitching or something? Who knows.
* Buckle Up!: The buckle! Don’t forget the buckle! How does it feel? Is it solid? Does it say Fossil? I assume the real ones have quality buckles.
* Serial Killer (Number… I mean, Serial Number): Okay, so *some* Fossil watches have serial numbers on the back. If yours has one, that *could* be a good sign. But even then, sometimes those are faked too, so don’t rely on it completely. I’m not sure what you *do* with the serial number, mind you.
My Two Cents (Worth Less Than a Fake Fossil, Probably):
Honestly, if you’re really unsure, I’d take it to a real-deal Fossil store or a jeweler. They know their stuff, and they can probably tell you in five seconds if it’s a genuine Fossil or a cleverly disguised piece of junk. It’s worth the peace of mind, right?
Also, and this is just me, but I’m kinda suspicious of *anything* sold online if it sounds too cheap. Even on legitimate sites. I’ve gotten burned before on “deals” that turned out to be total garbage. So just be careful, okay?
The Big Question: Why Bother?
And honestly, if the price is right and you *like* the *look* of the fake watch, and you know it’s fake… then maybe it doesn’t even matter? Like, who cares if it’s a “real” Fossil if you just want a stylish watch? But if you are paying for the quality of a real fossil, then I would be careful.
